freedom of 'no' religion?
lately I've heard a lot of lawsuits and issues that come up about the freedom of religion and how the atheists are getting their way about dominating the race. My mom's views are simple: "If you are an atheist and you value nothing in religious symbols or artifacts then why should it bother you so much?" Someone complained to a Costco employee that they didn't want to hear Christmas music. And now I watched a news story about the atheist organization in my state making a protest and not participate in the silence of prayer. Good then, if you don't believe in a God then the more power to yourself but you don't have to make a big deal about it. This country was found on basic rights and the freedom of religion is one of them.

Ah, one would think that insecurity leads to offense taken in these things. After all, you aren't forced to go to Target and listen to the music, nor is anyone forced to participate in silent prayer.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be a fight to make religion completely seperate from public life. Is it dehumanizing to take the spiritual aspect of a person's everyday life and limit it to one's private abode? To supress expression, to supress the majority in order for the minority to get along?
Some people don't like black cats- does that mean that no one should own one? Some people don't believe violent films are okay to view- should they all be destroyed then, for fear of offense? I don't think I could live in a society that was so sensitive, too sensitive, to everyone's individual needs and beliefs. Then I would not be able to strengthen my own beliefs. They need to be challenged.
Yes, you do bring up good points and someone could just say: "I don't like it so I'm just going out of my way to avoid it." I'm not trying to have it come across that way but I think that's the message I'm saying huh?
